Sadly, as we all know the Land Rover Defender went out of production in 2016, however we can confirm that it hasn’t gone forever. In fact, an all-new version could be making an appearance in 2018!
It has been claimed one of the Jaguar Land Rover bosses has already took the newly created vehicle out for a spin. So far, we have heard nothing but positive opinions about the renovated boxy 4×4 – we can’t wait for it to finally make an appearance. Keeping it in true Land Rover style they are sticking to the iconic name, the Defender!
If you’re patiently waiting for more Land Rover updates like us here at JGS, then it will come as no surprise that the new Defender isn’t being kept a secret, the bosses at Land Rover have openly spoken about their new arrival since September, although they’re keeping the all-important details on the down low.
After the chief executive, Dr Ralph Speth, revealed that early development mules have already been driven by Land Rover bosses, including himself, we have our hopes up for this one with promises that the new Defender will be “even more capable” for when the going gets tough. By the sounds of things, 2018 could be looking good for JLR!
We are hoping the new version impresses, after all new versions of classic cult cars can be difficult to pull off. Especially if Land Rover want to make a profit, they will need to build this new 4×4 that has off-road capability and versatility on par with the brand’s DNA which could prove difficult for a car we are expecting to only sell in small numbers. However, first indications are that this new Defender will be sharing components with other Land Rover models, with the aim to cut costs.
Here at JGS we can’t wait to find out more news about the & in the meantime will keep you up to date with any news we hear too!
