We had a local farmer’s Discovery 4 workhorse in at JGS4x4 today for an automatic gearbox fluid flush.
Over the past few weeks, we have worked our magic on lots of Discovery 3’s and Range Rover Sports with lumpy, notchy and juddery gearboxes so it was nice to have a change with a Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6.
With 155,000 miles on the clock the fluid was burnt and blackened as expected, the owner has been having some unexpected behaviour from the normally silky smooth 6 speed ZF gearbox. There were several gearbox related faults stored in the ECU, these were noted and cleared before carrying out a complete fluid flush and change, we reset the gearbox adaptations and finally a test drive and another diagnostic code reading confirmed all seemed well again.
