How is Land Rover planning to combat plastic waste?

Land Rover Range Rover JGS4x4 Ltd

We’re excited to see Land Rover have formed a unique partnership with synthetic fibre company Aquafil, to use its innovative environmentally friendly fabric, Econyl, in its future Land Rover models.

Econyl is made from repurposed waste such as recycled industrial plastics, scraps of waste fabric and discarded fishing nets that then go through a treatment process before transforming the broken-down materials into a secondary new yarn with the same characteristics as nylon.

Land Rover’s decision to partner with Aquafil contributes towards their ‘Destination Zero’ mission, and follows the success of using other eco-friendly alternatives such as a eucalyptus fabric interior in the Range Rover Evoque and the optional Kvadrat cloth made from recycled plastic bottles in the Evoque and Range Rover.

It’s not yet confirmed which models the pioneering Econyl fabric will feature in, but it’s said that it will be used for floor mats and trims across the range in the not-too-distant future!
