I am one of the JGS4X4 team and this year I am taking on the MacAgain Challenge 2018 in memory of my Dad who died of Cancer in March 2017. I have decided to raise money in support of Macmillian Cancer, who supported him when he needed help the most.
This event is a true test of navigational skills, observation, on and off road driving ability and endurance; by day and night. Each team consists of only two people and one vehicle. We only know where we are starting from, the route being kept secret til road books are handed out along the way.
We will be starting this year’s challenge around Hay-on-Wye on Friday 2 March and Finishing on Sunday 4 March. As yet we don’t have our team number, but my navigator Liz Barker and I are ready for whatever they throw at us this year.
Again, we will be using the Tomcat for the event as it’s got some nice little extras fitted to aid finding our way around day, and night while looking for “Code Boards” and cryptic clues.
The code boards can be 2 or more letters, numbers or both. Some are made from number plates while others are printed on green cards. These are hunted for both day and night while navigating the off-road sections. The instructions we use to work out the routes can be tulip diagrams, grid references or depending how the organisers feel, they can even use other ingenious, creative ways of getting us to plot our way.
The reason we do the challenge is to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer. Life with cancer is still life, but Macmillan help you live it! Right from the moment you’re diagnosed, through your treatment and beyond! Macmillan are a constant source of support, giving you the energy and inspiration to help you take back control of your life, and feel more like yourself again.
One in Two people will get cancer in the UK! That is a scary figure…
I lost my father in March last year to this dreadful illness. He had got through two lots of cancer. He was my hero and always supported my fundraising for Macmillan, so this year I will be doing the challenge in his memory.
Please support this amazing charity by clicking on my Just Giving page. All the money will go direct to Macmillan. Cancer effects all the whole family when it hits! Macmillan are there to support you all the way.
