New Defender is still being built using rivets in Slovakia

This is a very interesting read from Autocar all about the New Defender factory in Slovakia.

They are still using rivets to build the Defender, “To achieve the required stiffness in the aluminium structure, 3600 rivets are used, plus 170 metres of glue.”

“The technology is significantly different,” explains Russell Leslie who has worked for JLR for over 26 years. “We build both Defender and Discovery in a bodyshop with 642 robots. I don’t know how many we had in the Defender bodyshop back in the day, but it was probably single figures.”
