It probably comes as no surprise that two top of the range luxury 4×4 models from Land Rover are in the top ten of stolen vehicles in Britain last year.
Car thefts have soared by almost 50 per cent in the last five years, latest figures from the DVLA show that more than 56,000 cars were stolen between November 2018 and November 2019 – that equates to 154 cars per day.
Top of the list with 2,384 stolen cars last year was the Ford Fiesta. Then at number two is the luxury Range Rover with 1,917 stolen and from the same manufacturer, the Discovery is at number 7 with a reported 791 vehicles taken.
The rest of the vehicles in the top ten include models from BMW, Mercedes, Audi and VW, all premium manufacturers using the latest keyless technology.
One can’t help thinking the latest convenience of keyless entry, and keyless start has made vehicle theft easier and more convenient than ever for the criminals!
What do you think, has keyless technology made it easier to steal cars?
Should car manufacturers be doing more to prevent keyless thefts?
